A little about me

I’ve grown up around horses, learning from my Granny Joanna Herrigstad. Some of you who are in the English world may of heard of her, she judged in various states, trained a few horses for the Olympics and helped many people achieve their riding dreams. I grew up riding English, had one naughty pony after the other to teach me:) I’ve done Dressage, Stadium jumping, and my favorite, Cross Country Jumping! When I went to High School in Olympia Washington I joined the equestrian team. I hope its better now but when I was in High School (2008-2012) the English division was pretty much a joke…. Western Pleasure horses were winning Dressage and I was told that I would never place because my horse was a bold mover.. um HELLO! Dressage is bold and flashy not peanut pusher style with the horses head dragging on the ground! Anyways I decided to give Western riding a shot. That’s when Freshman year I was excepted on the Drill Team, I also tried out cow sorting, steer daubing, barrel racing, Canadian flags, bi-wrangle, individual flags, working pairs, in-hand obstacle course etc. Together my horse Bandit and I did pretty well at these events; 19 or so medals and several broken records in 4 years of high school wasn’t bad! I bought Bandit a few months into my Freshman year and figured lets learn this stuff together buddy. He was a hot headed Thoroughbred but I always loved the hot horses so it was an instant connection! He could be excited and fast when it came to gaming events but he did have to behave and listen and not dash in-to the arena like horse tripping on cocaine lol!
Junior or Senior year in high school I started competing in cow sorting outside of high school events. My ability to adapt and eagerness to learn allowed me to move up the ranks fairly quickly. More often then not I would win back my entry fees plus some $$$$ and I now have a small collection of belt buckles starting! I think my last year competing (2015) in WA before moving to ID I won 6 or 7 out of 8 shows, I was very proud of my horses (or horses I borrowed) and myself!  Late January 2016 I moved to Southern Idaho to work for a Reined Cow Horse Trainer for 8 months. I only received one lesson in those 8 months but I learned lots from watching the trainer ride. I am still in southern Idaho but have a job that pays a bit better and have been getting Cutting Lessons on my 5 year old “One Lucky Son ofa Gun” call name is Crook. I still have Bandit who is 18 years old this year and I picked up a yearling named Ace I will be starting in the spring as a 2 year old.
If you’ve actually read this LONG description than thank you for taking the time and I hope it wasn’t to boring! In a nut shell that’s the story of my equestrian life. I did not include any training lessons or tips but that’s why I created this blog, because I want to start recording for my learning and maybe if your interested you could learn something new. More consistent Blogs will start in Spring time 2017 due to weather.
